Academic Qualifications and Awards

He went on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he gained a Bachelor of Music with Honours and a Postgraduate Diploma with distinction under the tutelage of Chris Mowat. He performed with all the college ensembles including a solo performance of Berlioz’s Grande Symphonie Funebre et Triomphale with the Wind Band.

He was a regular prize winner, and his accolades include the Richard Clarkson Memorial Prize for the best all-around musician, the Linda Mowat post-graduate brass prize, and the EMI sound foundation bursary for postgraduate study. He was also awarded the position of Graduate assistant to the head of brass.

Will was later awarded the South Square Trust award to study at the Royal Academy of Music where he graduated with distinction, studying under Dennis Wick, Ian Bousfield and Dudley Bright. He also played with the National Youth Wind Band of Great Britain and was a member of the Britten Pears young artist’s programme.

Professional Teaching Experience

Will has taught students ranging from age 7 to 87 both on a one-to-one basis, and also in groups. He is equally happy teaching beginners as he is preparing students for Diplomas and auditions for university. He currently teaches at The Downs School, Bristol, Taunton School and Blundells, Tiverton. He has previously held positions at Redmaids High School in Bristol and Cheltenham Ladies College, as well South Gloucestershire Music Service.  Teaching duties include conducting ensembles, coaching chamber groups and leading orchestral sectionals. Will has previously worked for “Education Group”; a company devoted to taking music workshops to schools.

Professional Performance Experience

Will is an experienced performer and is equally comfortable playing in an orchestra, a chamber group or as a backing musician. Amongst others he has performed with the Bristol Ensemble, The Sinfonietta, the British Sinfonietta, WNO, Westminster Chamber Orchestra, English Concertante, The Bernadi Ensemble and The Auralian Ensemble. He has played for numerous musicals and recorded for many sessions, including for BBC Radio 2,3 and 4 and ITV and S4C television, including performing at the Royal Variety Shows for Neil Diamond and McFly. He has also worked as deputy to the Orchestral Manager for Milton Keynes City Orchestra at home and on tour and organises Ensembles for corporate and private events.
